How to find the right keywords for your Etsy listing

Keyword Finder is a keyword research tool for Etsy. It helps you discover keywords and evaluate how much demand and competition they have.

Follow these three simple steps to use Keyword Finder:

  1. Enter a keyword related to your product in the search field and click search.

  2. Keyword Finder will connect with Etsy and generate a list of similar keywords and give you actionable information like the level of competition and demand for each keyword.

  3. Use this information to select the right keywords for your listing.
A great keyword has high demand and low competition.

Let's try it out

Let's imagine that you're selling this beautiful handcrafted name puzzle:

We'll search for "name puzzle" to generate a list of similar keywords and keyword metrics. The first you'll see is the keyword metrics section.

Keyword metrics

The keyword metrics section gives you information about the keyword you searched for. Here is what the different information tells you:

  • Views: Total number views for the top listings ranking for this keyword. This tells you about the demand (how many shoppers are searching) for this keyword.

  • Favorites: Total number of favorites among top listings ranking for this keyword.

  • Competition: The number of competing listings on Etsy for this keyword. Keyword Finder connects directly to Etsy, so the number is a 100%! The less competition is of course better!

  • Sales: Total number of estimated sales for the top listings ranking for this keyword. Learn more about sales estimates here.

  • Price: Average price for the top listings ranking for this keyword. The average price tells your something about what you should price your item at to be competitive. For the name puzzle, we should probably aim for a price point around $20 - 30.

  • Shops competing: Total number of unique shops among the top listings ranking for this search term.

  • Processing time: The average processing time for the top shops ranking for this keyword.

  • Main category: Most common category among the top listings ranking for this keyword.

We can use these insights to select good keywords for an Etsy listing. You want to select keywords that have high demand, meaning keywords that many shoppers on Etsy are searching for, and low competition.

Similar keywords

The similar keywords section gives you a list of similar keywords related to the keyword you searched for. These are great for finding and quickly validating potential keywords for your listing.

You can paste these directly into your Etsy listing tags section, as they are separated by commas. Read more about copying and exporting keywords here.

Google Trends data

If you want to look into a keyword further, you can click on the "trend" icon to open up Google Trends data. Just hover over a row to make the icon appear:

Here you'll see:

  2. What keywords Google thinks are relevant
